Tips for Certified Vineyards: Chapters 6 & 7

These tips are to help you update your certification documents a little each month to help you prepare for your June 1 through July 14, 2017 inspection to achieve SIP Certified vineyard.

Login to the database at https://app.sipcertified.org to read each specific Standard as you implement and document them. Unless noted otherwise in the Standards, documentation should reflect practices from Dec. 1, 2016 to June/July 2017.

For Full Inspection Vineyards

Take this month to complete Chapters 6 and 7.

  • NEW Vineyards – 6.1.1 Write up your program to eliminate offsite spray drift.
  • NEW Vineyards – 6.1.2 Post speed limit signs posted on main vineyard access roads. If you did not get a picture at the start of this email series, get one this month or mark the location on your vineyard map.
  • 7.2.1 Make sure employee safety trainings are completed and documented.
  • NEW Vineyards – 7.4.1 Complete your neighbor and community communication plan. You can use the attached template.
  • 8.1.1 Upload December 1, 2016 through June/July 2017 pesticide use reports.

For Doc. or Doc. + Onsite Inspection Vineyards

What to Document?

Find your inspection type

  • Documentation – Complete Standards marked “D” in the database. Also review D+O Standards. These will be reviewed if you nave the Impromptu inspection (48 hours notice of an onsite inspection)
  • Doc+Onsite – Complete Standards marked “D” and “D+O” in the database.

What to do This Month

  • 7.1.4 If you pay a piece rate, you must have a mechanism to properly compensate break time.
  • 7.2.1 Make sure employee safety trainings are completed and documented.
  • 8.1.1 Upload December 1, 2016 through June/July 2017 pesticide use reports.

Important Due Dates

  • May – Contact an inspector to get your inspection on the calendar between June 1 and July 14.
  • June 1 – July 14 – Complete your vineyard certification inspection. Please note that applicants are subject to a $250-500 late fee penalty for documentation received after July 25. Incomplete inspection reports and documentation are subject to a not eligible vote.
  • August – Certification Advisory Committee (CAC) votes on vineyard eligibility.
  • August/September – SIP staff sends notification of Certification eligibility.
  • September – Grower pays certification fees.
  • December 15 – Grower submits year end 8.1.1 (July – Nov pesticide use reports) and Chapter 11 to inspector.
