Meet the SIP Farmers: Jim Stollberg

Jim Stollberg of Maverick Farming

We all enjoy getting to know people better; whether it’s interesting facts, thoughts, or humorous tidbits. So we came up with some questions to ask the farmers of SIP that we feel will give us a more interesting view of them behind the soil and vines.

First up is Jim Stollberg, the manager at Maverick Farming.

Classic rock or classic country? Country

Favorite spot in the vineyard? Sorting fruit from the hand harvest crew. We get the satisfaction of seeing all of our hard work for the year. Everyone is working hard and excited.

Number of years farming? 13

Number of years with current company? 13

Red, white, or…? Cold

Best tip for surviving the “roller coaster they call farming”? The ability to learn from the tough years and remembering better years. Sometimes a short memory, always eternal optimism.

Most surprising “Aha” farming moment? Mother nature really is in charge.

When you’re not farming, where would we find you? Playing some kind of game with my boys, whether it be catch with a ball or a game of cards. (or the golf course)

Wranglers or Levis? Wranglers

Is there anything else you’d like to tell us? Keep your eye on the ball.

Jim Stollberg farms the vineyards at the beautiful Riverbench Vineyards and Winery, located in Santa Barbara County. You can connect with Riverbench via Facebook and Twitter.

Our plan is to start giving you more insight into those people involved in the SIP family, from the growers to the winemakers to the staff in the tasting rooms. Let us know if you have other questions that would be interesting to ask these folks…but while we’re at it, how would you answer the question, “red, white, or…?”
