Preparing for Summer SIP Vineyard Inspections

Cheers to all of the hard work that goes into achieving SIP Certification. Being SIP Certified shows the farmers’ commitment to protecting the environment and their workers.

Inspections are right around the corner. Certified Vineyards should review the instructions below and call or email any time with questions.

Schedule a Vineyard Inspector in May

Call or email your inspector to select a date (Inspector contact information is available online)

  1. Login to the database
  2. Click Certifications
  3. Under Certifications in Progress, below Appl. click the icon
  4. Under Audit, Audit Scheduled, select the agreed upon inspection date
  5. Under Audit, Auditor, select the Inspector name from dropdown
  6. Click Save
  7. Your inspector can now see your Standards documentation

Find Your Inspection Type and Update Your Documentation

Review pages 16-19 of the Information Package for details on your inspection. Find your inspection type by:

  1. Login to the database
  2. Click Certifications
  3. Under Certifications in Progress, below Appl. click the icon
  4. Under Audit, Audit Type see your inspection type:
  • Full – new applicant (8 – 12 hour inspection) = complete documentation and onsite inspection
  • Full – renewal applicant (5 – 6 hour inspection) = complete documentation and onsite inspection
  • Documentation (1 – 3 hour inspection) = renewal documentation offsite inspection (database Standards marked D)
  • Doc + Onsite (2 – 4 hour inspection) = renewal documentation and onsite inspection (database Standards marked D AND D+O)
  • NOTE: Qualifying Vineyards in Cycle 2 & 3 are subject to an impromptu (Doc+Onsite) inspection with 48 hours notice

 Preparing for Inspection

  • Document Standards in the SIP database
  • Documentation should reflect your practices from December 1 through June/July (certification year is Dec. 1 – Nov. 30)
  • Inspections are conducted between June 1 and July 15
  • Growers are subject to a $250-500 late fee for documentation received after July 24, 2015
  • Incomplete inspection reports and documentation are subject to a NOT ELIGIBLE vote by the Certification Advisory Committee
