Santa Maria, California
Jim Stollberg is a first generation farmer. After growing up in Santa Maria he went away to college at UC Davis to play baseball and become a biomedical engineer. Realizing that he was not made for working in a lab and that he was attending a great viticulture school, Jim took a summer job working for the Young family at Rancho Dos Amigos Vineyard in Shandon, CA. The Young’s took Jim under their wing and gave him a taste of vineyard work, management, and life. Throughout college Jim also worked for Woodbridge Winery (Lodi, CA), Andrew Walker (UC Davis), and Gallo of Sonoma (Dry Creek Valley, CA) and by graduation he was sold on the rewarding work, seasonality, and people in the wine industry.
After college Jim returned to Santa Maria, took a job with Hampton Farming Co., and married wife Sammi. Today he has twin four year old boys, Andrew and Jack, runs his own company Maverick Farming, and continues to work with Dale Hampton consulting and managing vineyards in Santa Barbara County.Return to Producers Listing »
