SIP Vineyard Certification is the only program that prohibits the use of specific pesticides. Not only are high-risk materials prohibited, but certification requires that vineyards implement and document cultural practices that fit into an overall integrated pest management program: canopy management to reduce disease pressure; dust management to reduce mite pressure; cover cropping to promote biodiversity and protect soil and water resources; non-cropped area biodiversity areas; extensive scouting and recording; wind measurement prior to spray applications; equipment calibration; backflow prevention devices; community relations plans; employee development and safety programs. These are just a few examples of the nearly 150 practices prescribed in the SIP Certification Standards.
SIP Certified has verified 34,000 acres and has more in process for 2016 certification.
