Seafood Savvy

August 13, 2012

[caption id="attachment_3656" align="alignleft" width="209"] Wave![/caption] One of my all time favorite food and wine events is Cooking for Solutions at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California. Chefs from all over the country serve up first class,  sustainably sourced seafood and their cuisine, as well as their conservation, pair perfectly with the eco-minded wineries in attendance. If you can take your eyes away from the food, being in the aquarium at night is truly treat. There is nothing like sipping a glass of Hahn SLH Estate Chardonnay paired with a tasty morsel from chef Brian and... [Read more...]

Strawberry Recipe

July 9, 2012

Tis' the season for fresh fruit and strawberries are always a favorite. With a bounty of luscious fruit at our disposal I was excited to see this strawberry recipe from the Riverbench team:   Strawberry Bread with 2007 Riverbench Estate Pinot Noir One of our staff members, Megan McDermott, brought this delicious cake to a staff meeting recently.  Though desserts can be difficult to pair with wines, this was a mouth-watering combination with our Estate Pinot Noir!  And since Santa Maria is so famous for its strawberries we couldn’t help but be thrilled. •    1... Earth Day Food & Wine Festival: The Recap

April 23, 2012

As with any event, there was a lot going on at the Earth Day Food and Wine Festival 2012…from live demonstrations of milking sheep to tasting sheep’s milk ice cream to one of the sheep escaping and running through the vineyards before finally being lassoed…now that is an event. And guess what, that was just the tip of the iceberg!! As we meandered through the tents full of wine booths, food booths, exhibitors, and all the awesome attendees there was a definite buzz; even in the 95 degree Templeton sun. There was plenty of shade... [Read more...]

April 12, 2012

[caption id="attachment_1000" align="alignright" width="150"] Tolosa Winery Pinot Noir[/caption] I made a quick trip to Vons the other day for some groceries, and of course, I had to cruise the wine aisle. But not just the wine aisle, they had a significant promotion on wines so there were displays all over the place! End caps. Islands. Aisles. Wines. Wines Wines. And LOTS of our SIP Certified Sustainable Wines - more wines at one major retail store than I could count - Ancient Peaks, Tolosa, Baileyana, Halter Ranch, Robert Hall, Terra Robles, Pomar Junction. Reds, whites, roses....... [Read more...]

Earth Day Food & Wine Festival: Don’t Forget About the Food!

April 9, 2012

As the Central Coast has evolved into a recognized wine region another pretty awesome thing started to happen…an amazing and creative food scene showed up and has evolved right alongside the wine. With that, pairing phenomenal wines with incredible food has become an art form and where better to display that art than at Earth Day Food and Wine Festival! Here are just a few of those pairings: -Luna Red Restaurant will serve spiced beef tartar on a crispy rice paper paired with Chamisal Vineyard wines -Fig Good Food will prepare fig chutney paired with... Wineries To Receive SIP Sustainability Seal of Approval

April 5, 2012

Hot off the press: Sustainability efforts of wineries to be independently verified with expansion of the already popular SIP Certification program. Since 2008, Sustainability in Practice (SIP)™ Certification has provided independent, third-party verification of sustainability practices in 27,000 acres of California vineyards, so “taking it to the winery level was the logical next step,” said Kris Beal, Executive Director of the Central Coast Vineyard Team (CCVT), the non-profit group which developed SIP Certification. [caption id="attachment_1086" align="alignright" width="200" caption="SIP Certified Seal"][/caption] Though still in the planning stages, the winery process certification will rigorously review a number... The Bellagio | SIP Spotting

March 8, 2012

I'm a bit obsessed. I tend to get lost in the wine aisles, for... a while. That would be me, scanning the shelves, looking for our brands, and turning around bottles to see if they have the seal. And of course, I take pictures. This little side trip always takes time and requires quite a bit of patience of anyone with me. (Thank you to my friends and family for indulging me in this exercise.) So I was on a splurge vacation at the Bellagio. I popped into the hotel shop to pick up a... [Read more...]

From KJ’s Kitchen

July 21, 2011

I always love food so here is a great share from Kendall-Jackson! At Kendall-Jackson, not only are we known for our amazing wines, we are also known for our heirloom tomatoes.  We have been saving heirloom tomato seeds for the past 15 years and now have over 400 varieties of seeds saved.  Each year, we plant approximately 175 heirloom varieties in our culinary gardens and invite chefs from all over to come and cook tomato-inspired dishes to pair with our wines at the annual Kendall-Jackson Heirloom Tomato Festival. Vineyard Tour with Riverbench

March 24, 2011

I never shy away from the chance to learn something new and Saturday was no different. Sporting my new SIP hat**, I cruised down to Riverbench Vineyard & Winery in Santa Maria for a vineyard tour compliments of Central Coast Winegrowers Association (CCWGA). I was immediately impressed with the turnout (all ages and backgrounds) and the desire to learn from the other attendees. Jim Stollberg, Vineyard Manager for Riverbench and owner of Maverick Farming Company, led us into the vineyard first. Jim was the perfect tour leader. He's extremely knowledgeable and down to earth, allowing... [Read more...]
