Learn About Your Inspection Type

SIP Certified inspections run on a 3-year cycle:

  • Cycle 1: Full Documentation + Onsite (Full)
  • Cycle 2: Short Documentation only (D), or Doc + Onsite (D+O)
  • Cycle 3: Short Documentation only (D), or Doc + Onsite (D+O)

Each applicant starts their first year in SIP Certified at Cycle 1. Your fourth year in the program, you return to Cycle 1, and the cycle continues.

* Please note:

  • Vineyards: an increase >20% of currently certified acres require a Full Cycle 1 inspection.
  • Wineries: an increase >50% of crush volume from the previous year require a Full Cycle 1 inspection.

 

 

The 3 Inspection Types


Cycle 1: Full

This type is called “Full” because applicants must complete all Standards, plus receive an onsite inspection. All documentation must be completed prior to your onsite inspection.

  • Must achieve at least 75% of the available points:
    • 100% of the Requirements
    • 50% of the applicable Management Enhancements
  • Estimated time to complete application:
    • New applicant: 60 – 80 hours
    • Renewal applicant: 20 – 30 hours
  • Estimated time to complete inspection:
    • New applicant: 8 – 15 hours
    • Renewal applicant: 4 – 6 hours

 


Cycle 2 & 3: Documentation (D)

During cycle 2 and 3, you may have just a short documentation audit:

  • Must achieve 100% of the available points.
    • Complete all standards marked with “D.”
  • Estimated time to complete application: 20 – 30 hours
  • Estimated time to complete inspection: 1 – 3 hours

 

 

Cycle 2 & 3: Documentation + Onsite (D+O)

Or, during cycle 2 or 3, you have have a short documentation audit and a short onsite inspection.

  • Must achieve 100% of the available points.
    • Complete all Standards marked with “D” and “D+O.”
  • Estimated time to complete application: 20 – 30 hours
  • Estimated time to complete inspection: 2 – 4 hours
