Sustainability is not a trend

posted: December 29, 2022

People today are growing increasingly environmentally conscious. WWF commissioned global research by Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) in 2021 (An Eco Awakening) that found that searches for sustainable goods have increased globally by 71% since 2016. Sustainability is not a trend, it is becoming a cultural shift!

When wine shoppers see the SIP Certified logo, they can feel good knowing that they are supporting a system of winegrowing that is done with conscious care for the people and the planet.

Here are three ways SIP Certified brings value to your good work:

1. You Achieve the Highest Bar

SIP Certified is the strictest program to assess the environmental, social, and community health of vineyards and wineries. Certification helps you implement sustainable practices on every level of your winegrowing business, from farm labor to agriculture, energy conservation to water quality, and from soil health to community.

This breadth and rigor mean that not every winegrower can attain SIP Certified. Attaining SIP Certified shows that your business meets these strict standards.

2. Your Practices are Third-Party Verified

76% of the public believes an independent third-party verification is the best way to verify a product's social or environmental claim.

Complying with the SIP Certified Standards is multi-pronged:

  • Implementation and documentation of over 100 practices.
  • Independent documentation and on-site inspections.
  • Final approval from an independent advisory committee (government, academic, and industry professionals).

This multi-pronged system ensures that there is no conflict of interest in your SIP Certified achievement. Certification shows your brand’s authentic, verifiable dedication to and achievement of stringent sustainable standards.

3. Display Your Achievement

Consumers seek easy ways to find and identify sustainable wines. Most wine consumers make their purchases at retail outlets, which means you can’t always be there to tell them about the sustainability of your wine.

Displaying the SIP Certified seal on your packaging and marketing materials helps inform the public that you have gone above the industry standards to craft a product made with conscious care for the people and the planet.
