Earth Day Food & Wine Festival: Don’t Forget About the Food!

April 9, 2012

As the Central Coast has evolved into a recognized wine region another pretty awesome thing started to happen…an amazing and creative food scene showed up and has evolved right alongside the wine.

With that, pairing phenomenal wines with incredible food has become an art form and where better to display that art than at Earth Day Food and Wine Festival! Here are just a few of those pairings:

Luna Red Restaurant will serve spiced beef tartar on a crispy rice paper paired with Chamisal Vineyard wines

-Fig Good Food will prepare fig chutney paired with Carmel Road’s wine.

-Il Cortile Ristorante will have panzarotti paired with Daou Vineyards.

-Two Cooks Catering will have wild boar goulash with Hungarian paprika and homemade fresh herb pasta paired with wines from Still Waters Vineyards.

Other incredible food that will be at the event will be brought to you by Porter’s Gourmet on the Go (mini pork char siu tacos and Hearst beef sliders), Chef Ian McPhee of McPhee’s Grill (lamb sliders), Chef Rachel (ahi tacos), and some desserts from Just Baked SLO and Stewart & Clark Fine Foods.

This will be my third year in a row going to Earth Day Food and Wine Festival and the fact that it’s an event not only focused on wine, but the art of pairing food with the wine is something that has stood out to my wife and I. The best thing is that it’s far beyond bread sticks and crackers, this is the real deal. The food is provided by some of the Central Coasts’ finest Chef’s and Restaurants, you won’t walk away disappointed or hungry!

Once you go around and try all the different pairings provided you can go make your own pairings. All you have to do is get some juice in your glass and meander around to all the different food vendors…make it an adventure and tease your taste buds! And if you see me walking around with a video camera be sure to run up and say hi!!
