We all enjoy getting to know people better; whether it’s interesting facts, thoughts, or humorous tidbits. So we came up with some questions to ask the farmers of SIP that we feel will give us a more interesting view of them behind the soil and vines.
In this post we’ll hear about Rodger Mohme, owner/grower at Colina d’Oro Vineyards.
Classic rock or classic country? Classic rock
Favorite spot in the vineyard? Anywhere there isn’t a gopher, squirrel, or some other beast to chase down
Number of years farming? 12
Number of years with current company? 12
Red, white or…? Red
Best tip for surviving the “roller coaster they call farming”? Be the highest quality supplier with the lowest internal costs you can be. Be prepared to save a portion of your net in all good years to build a buffer from the inevitable bad years and build excellent, lasting relationships with all your customers.
Most surprising “Aha” farming moment? I’m still waiting… I think I’ve gotten to the point where nothing surprises me anymore!
When you’re not farming, where would we find you? Probably listening to live music anywhere in the North County – with a glass of wine, of course!
Wranglers or Levis? Wranglers
Thanks for answering the questions Rodger!! We think it’s very important to get know the growers behind SIP and the sustainable movement. Until next time, Cheers!!
