SIP, EDFW, and CCVT Oh My!

April 2, 2012

EDFW2012

Yep, lots of letters but lots of great meaning behind those letters. Kris introduced me to you in a very kind post last week and I wanted to start by giving you my story on how I found out about all the letters in the title.

CCVT is THE group, the Central Coast Vineyard team, which puts on the Earth Day Food and Wine (EDFW) Festival and also runs the SIP Certification program (Sustainability in Practice) for vineyards and wineries.

My original interactions were with SIP on Twitter (@SIPtheGoodLife) and from what I recall there was some back and forth on Facebook as well. After getting to know Kris, and Kris getting to know my wife (Annie) and I; we were invited to Earth Day Food and Wine Festival in 2010. Our reaction to EDFW 2010…absolutely blown away at how well the event was put together.

And trust me when I say that I’m not just blowing smoke, I wouldn’t be involved with this awesome group of people if I didn’t believe whole heartedly in what they are doing AND how they go about doing it. The event was flawless, it was clean and well organized, laid back and fun, full of amazing food and wine, great exhibits, and all with the focus on sustainability.

When EDFW 2011 arrived, the venue had changed to the beautiful Pomar Junction Vineyard and Winery, but the event blew us away yet again. Their event literally feels like a backyard barbeque with a 1,000 of your closest friends and the fact that they created less than two pounds of trash from that 1,000 people at the 2011 event was mind blowing. This group is dedicated to sustainability from A to Z, the follow through is always amazing to watch.

As a consumer and wine related blogger, I have been more familiar with SIP and EDFW, but as I have navigated beyond those I have learned more about the Central Coast Vineyard Team (CCVT) and the ag/farming side of what they do.

My hope is to continue learning more about what they do, how they do it, and what the future holds for them and their initiatives. It’s always so nice to see good people doing good things and more importantly, they really seem to love what they do. I would encourage you to take a look around the site to learn more, find out what wines are SIP Certified, and if you’re in the area or willing to travel you really should look into the Earth Day Food and Wine event coming in April (hope to see you there)!

Until next time, see you on Twitter.  Cheers!
