SIP Certified Partners with Wine Sellers

SIP Certification has a consumer facing element allowing the SIP Certified seal on a bottle of wine based on an inspection confirming the wine has at least 85% of certified fruit. 34,000 acres of SIP Certified Vineyards

SIP Vineyard Certification is the only program that prohibits the use of specific pesticides. Not only are high-risk materials prohibited, but certification requires that vineyards implement and document cultural practices that fit into an overall integrated pest management program: canopy management to reduce disease pressure; dust management to reduce mite pressure; cover cropping to promote biodiversity and protect soil and water resources; non-cropped area biodiversity areas; extensive scouting and recording; wind measurement prior to spray applications; equipment calibration; backflow prevention devices; community relations plans; employee development and safety programs. SIP Certified launched in 2008 with 3,700 acres. To date, 34,000 acres are SIP Certified with more signing up for the 2016 vintage. Participants confirm that they have sold fruit, earned a premium for fruit, increased shelf space, garnered favorable press, and received regulatory relief as a result of SIP Certification. The certification has a 90 percent retention rate – participants continue with the program.
